Carolyn Maxine Hall

Carolyn Maxine Hall, 84, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 4, 2022, after a lingering illness. Maxine Hattaway was born March 30, 1938, in Jackson Parrish, Louisiana and graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1956. After graduating from Northwestern State College with a degree in Home Economics, Maxine began her career as a teacher. She taught at multiple locations in Louisiana and Florida over the years and served as Director of Evangel Temple Daycare in Jacksonville.

While teaching in Louisiana, she met Bobby Jean Hall, who taught Math and Science at the same high school. They married and had two children, Gwendolyn Dianne, born August 5, 1962, and David Carroll, born October 26, 1965. The family lived in Chatham, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana before settling in Jacksonville, Florida where Maxine served in her local church with little fanfare in such areas as missions, childcare, women’s ministries, Sunday School, and communion preparation. One of her great joys was creating hand-held puppets with her husband for use in missions and child evangelism. She also enjoyed reading, sewing clothes and costumes, and cooking.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by two sisters, Martha Salley and Janice Carpenter, two brothers, Hayward Hattaway and J.T. Hattaway, her daughter, Gwen Trussler, her son, David Hall, and her granddaughter, Olivia Charissa Trussler.

Services will be held at Evangel Temple Lodge. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 10 AM, the funeral service will begin at 10 AM and there will be a graveside service at 12 noon at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
